What to look for in an ice sculpture
Start by looking at a sculpture from a distance, then move closer within the visitor route to notice smaller details.

Move from the outline to the details
Look at the overall shape first. Then find something you missed: an edge, a texture or a thinner section. With children, ask an open question such as “What do you notice?”. You do not need to understand carving techniques to compare observations or explain what catches your eye.
Notice what the lighting changes
Compare bright and dark areas and how they affect the shape you see. Where the route allows, look from another angle without crossing barriers. Do not touch the sculptures unless explicitly permitted. Individual works, artists and any demonstrations have not yet been listed, so this guide does not describe specific exhibits.
Before you go
- Look at the overall outline first.
- Pick a small detail to share with someone else.
- Respect barriers and the marked visitor route.
